The Breakdown - (excerpt)

Updated: Apr 5

[Angela] watched Sean holding Jayden, and it reminded her again of her son. How she desperately wanted to hold him and reassure him that everything was going to be okay. Right now she would settle just to see him or know that he was even still alive. Hope seemed almost completely lost now. It was hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel. Her eyes started to tear up as she felt an overwhelming wave of emotion go through her whole body. A lump in her throat choked her, causing a cough followed by a short, strained gasp for air. She knew it wasn’t the best time, and she so wanted to hold it in, but her body wouldn’t allow it any longer. Angela dropped to her hands and knees. Her intense sobs made almost no sound. Her body heaved with every breath in.

As Angela wept, a light hand touched her shoulder. She looked up through tear soaked eyes just as Jayden wrapped his arms around her neck for a hug. She buried her face in his tiny shoulder and let it all out. The sounds that had been trapped within her now rang out through the trees in the early morning twilight. Jayden didn’t say a word or let up on his hold. He allowed Angela to pull him into her arms and rock back and forth, holding him like he was her own child.
