The loss was another reminder that this was the way of the world. Death was inescapable. It always had been and always would be. Friends and family were not immune from its reach. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, had been lost over the course of just a few days. How many more before this was over? If it would ever be over. This was life. This was death. This was war.
